Kids Protection Plan

If you are both gone tonight, who picks your children up?

Not next year in a courtroom. Tonight. Right now, at nine in the evening, when the police need to hand two children to somebody. If there is nothing on file, that somebody is whoever the system finds.

Free. Thirty minutes. This is the one most parents put off the longest.

The gap nobody mentions

Your will names a guardian. Your will is in a drawer.

A will gets read weeks later, in front of a judge. It does absolutely nothing in the first six hours, and the first six hours are the ones that matter.

Nobody at the scene knows your wishes

A first responder cannot open your safe deposit box. If your instructions are not on you and not with the people who might show up, they may as well not exist.

  • 02

Your children can be placed in temporary custody

Even with loving family two towns away, the state may take temporary care while it works out who has legal authority. That is a night in a stranger's house for a child who just lost their parents.

Relatives can fight over it, and a judge decides

A judge who has never met your family weighs it up. A guardianship fight can burn through a serious share of what you left behind, and the money comes out of your children's future.

Deen is not a factor a court has to consider

Whether your children are raised Muslim is not something a family court will weigh the way you would. If that matters to you, it has to be in writing before it is needed.

What you actually get

A plan that works at nine at night, not just in a courtroom.

Legal guardians, named properly

Permanent guardians for the long term, and short term guardians who can step in immediately. Most parents only name the first kind, which is exactly why children still end up in temporary custody.

An ID card in your wallet

So that whoever finds you knows within seconds that these children have a plan, and who to call. Your caregivers get their own cards too.

Written instructions for whoever is there

Medical needs, allergies, the masjid, who they trust, what calms them down. Everything the person stepping in would otherwise have to guess at on the worst day of their life.

Money set aside so nobody is out of pocket

The people raising your children should not have to choose between your kids and their own budget. We structure it so the funds are there and controlled.

Honest answers

The questions parents ask.

Most couples cannot at first. That is normal and it is not a reason to keep waiting. We walk you through the questions that actually matter, and you can name backups in order. You can change it later. A decision you might revise beats no decision at all.

It can, and it makes short term guardians even more important. Someone local needs the authority to hold things steady while family travels. We plan for both.

You should. It is a big thing to ask. We give you the words for that conversation, and it usually goes better than parents expect.

Then the surviving parent continues as normal in most cases. The plan is built for the situations where that is not true, including where a parent is alive but cannot make decisions.

This is the one that cannot wait

Your children do not get to choose. You do, but only while you can.

Thirty minutes on the phone and you can stop carrying this one around.
